American Beech - Fagus grandiflora - A stately beauty with smooth grey bark and dark green ovate leaves. It produces a nutlike seed, the beechnut, from which is used to flavor candies, chewing gum and to burn for light and heat. This variety is a native American tree with a large natural habitat. The shade cast is dense, and the fall foliage is yellow gold. They are very tolerant of soil types and will grow well in acidic as well as limestone soils. Hardy to -40F (-39.9C); height: 100ft.

ailments and skin problems. The nuts are often used as animal
