Eccremocarpus
(Plant heights are given at maturity)

This pretty perennial climbing member of the Begonia family, Bignoniaceae, makes an excellent cover for fences or trellises. The plant climbs by means of tendrils that terminate in dainty leaves and flashy one inch long yellow or orange red tubular blooms carried in racemes. Eccremocarpus prefer well drained loamy soil in a sunny location. The plants are extremely vigorous growers and should be cut back in the fall after blooming.

Propagation can be performed by digging and separating existing plants or by sowing seed. Seeds should be sown in pots, trays or a bed prepared with a soiless medium (1 part sand to 1 part sphagnum peat moss is fine) and covered lightly. The medium should be kept moist, but not soggy at about 70F. WHen seedlings reach a height of 2 inches, they should be transplanted to larger containers or directly outdoors, if the outdoor temperatures remain above 55F.
