Split leaf Philodendron - Monstera deliciosa - Vigorous evergreen climber native to Central American and Mexico, with huge glossy green leaves, split and perforated.  Stems are short and are jointed with arial roots.  Blooms are white spathes that reach up to 12in. in length that mature into edible fruits, which have a pleasant banana-pineapple aroma.  Prefers partial shade to bright indirect light and a rich well drained soil.  They do very well as potted plants in a bright window or greenhouse, though they will need to be trimmed often to contain them.  Hardy to 30F (-1.1C); height: 50ft. (vine)
