Canary Island Date Palm - Phoenix canariensis - Massive palm tree native to the Canary Islands, with a large trunk covered with a diamond pattern and a crown of arching pinate leaves, which toward the stem, are covered with spines. Fruits are formed, but they are not very palatable. Very slow growing in the beginning of its life, the growth rate increases once the full trunk diameter is reached, making a mid-life specimen look a bit disproportionate. It makes a good potted plant in a well drained soil in bright light. Hardy to 20F (-6.6C); height: 60ft.(40ft. spread)

palms and like lots of water during the growing season. Not particular
about sunshine, they can thrive in full sun to full shade. Hardy to 30F
(-1.1C); height: 7ft.
