Scarlet Pimpernel (Weatherglass, Poor Man's Weatherglass, ) - Anagalis arvensis - Perennial - Medicinal - This pretty member of the primrose family grows wild in many parts of the world and has red 5-petaled flowers on low growing foliage.  A perfect choice for the front of a border or a rock garden.  The flowers close before a rain, an action which give the plant the name Weatherglass.  This sensitivity to changes in the surroundings also led to the selection of the flower as the symbol for that famous fictional cloak and dagger spy, The Scarlet Pimpernel.  As a medicinal, the plant has been used to treat melancholia and depression.  Full sun; plant height: 8in.
