There are many different varieties of poppies - annuals, perennials, and biennial - some are single flowered, some double and they come in a wide variety of colors and textures.

ORIENTAL & PEONY FLOWERED POPPIES
These  poppies are hardy perennials growing 2 to 3 feet in height with large deeply cut leaves and large cup-shaped flowers of many colors in the spring.  Oriental poppies prefer ordinary well-cultivated garden soil.  Planting is usually done in spring, or in summer for bloom the following spring.  Once established, the flowers do not like being disturbed, so choose a spot where your poppies are likely to remain for several years.
