Black Cohosh (Black Snake Root, Rattle Root, Squaw Root, Bugbane) Cimifuga racemosa - Medicinal - Perennial shrub - Native North American species, growing best in moist woodland areas. The blooms appear as long white spikes, slightly drooping. The hard woody roots have been used as a bitter tonic to treat aches, coughs, fevers, and rattlesnake bite. In the past, it was also used to treat tuberculosis, rheumatic compaints, and whooping cough. Hardy to -40F (-40C); height: 6ft.
